Celebrating 159 Years!

On November 18th, the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church Virginia Beach celebrated 159 years. As the oldest African-American church in the city of Virginia Beach, Ebenezer has stood as a pillar of hope in our community.

Our Mistress of Ceremony, Deaconess Hawkins, shouted and praised God for His favor over Ebenezer. The highlight of the evening was the history of Ebenezer as told by Sister Cora Goodman. She became the church's official historian at the age of six, appointed by Rev. Wormly. Despite her many years, Sister Goodman gave a vivid account of Ebenezer's 159 years from memory.

Pastor Steven A. Lewis of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Norfolk provided the keynote message. Pastor Lewis told the congregation that in order to move forward in faith, it has be done with momentum and spirit. "It only takes one or two people to start the shift moving in your direction," he proclaimed.

The Mt Hermon choir set the atmosphere with their soul-stirring selections.

Having withstood the test of time, Ebenezer is excited to move Forward in Faith & By Faith!
